BATAKS

The Bataks of Palawan uses bamboo, rattan, vines, leaves, and almaciga sap in making baskets. The two tools they use are the payda (big knife) and the sundang (small knife). They make their baskets by weaving one set of blackened bambooo strips and another set of browned bamboo strips in various ways to produce several designs.
A BATAK BOLO SHEATH (US$ x.xx)

Product Description:

It is made by the Bataks of Palawan using hard Rattan peel in wicker weave with abaca twine handle. The wooden base is laced to the heavy rattan warp before weaving began. While traditionally worn at the waist or hung on the wall as a knife holder, this piece makes a perfect hanging vase or an interesting conversation piece over tea.
