MARANAOS

Traditionally living in the vicinity of Lake Lanao in Lanao Del Sur in Mindanao, the Maranaos, which means "lake people", are well known fisherfolks.
THE KENDI (US$ x.xx)

Product Description:

This Maranao brass teapot is etched with vegetal motifs on its surface.

The Kendi is an epitome of the Maranao modified art of brass-molding. The Maranaos use strip method in doing the typical okir designs. Paraffin is mixed with almaciga and beeswax in equal proportion, then a flat sheet is cut into small spaghetti strips. The wax is laid alongside to form a series of okir designs. This strip technique made speedy production possible and continues to be the hallmark of Maranao brass products.

Perfect as a collector's item, this intricately designed brass teapot also makes astonishing table top ornament.
