THE BURNAY
(US$ x.xx)
Product Description:
Ilocanos used this type of pot in fermenting vinegar and preserving
fish with salt. It was traditionally used in ancient Spanish galleons
as water storage and chemical container.
The Burnay is made of clay mixed with sand which after
firing rendered the pot non-porous and as hard as rock. Its vitrified
quality made it resist corrosion and chemical changes. In molding this
pot, the Ilocano potter coiled strips of clay and pinched the strips to
make them adhere to the rest of the pot. When the pot was finished, it
was smoothened both inside and out.
With its exquisite shape and intricate design, the Burnay makes a distinctive display, floral vase, and even food container.
