BATAK
Bataks are inhabitants of the north-eastern portion of Palawan Island,
from the Babuyan River on south to the vicinity of Malcampo on the
north. The Bataks are known to be food gatherers, hunters and
horticulturist. Traditionally, the costume of the Batak is simple which
is usually made of bark cloth made out of a certain variety of mulberry
tree. Although the Bataks are not expert textile weavers as they
acquire their clothing materials through trade, they are known basket
makers using blackened and browned bamboo strips to produce a wide
range of designs.
